Growing Up is a photographic memoir of my hometown, Hermosa Beach, and Manhattan Beach, California. In 1963, my parents moved from Santa Monica to Hermosa Beach. My dad, an avid amateur photographer, frequently walked through the two towns, capturing photos of Hermosa and Manhattan Beach. Our home was located on 24th Street in Hermosa Beach, and his walks often followed 22nd Street to the Strand, then along the Strand to Pier Avenue. At the end of his strolls, he would stop at Either/Or Bookstore, as he read several books a week, and this was a necessary stop for him. However, there are fewer photos of Manhattan Beach, as there was no bookstore as good as Either/Or in that town. Perhaps if there had been a comparable bookstore, there would have been more photos taken in Manhattan Beach.
